Shaina Buchwald

Nanoosh is so excited to welcome Shaina Buchwald as our third official artist. Her work is exceptional! Shaina is an artist whose life, experience and creativity shine through every piece she makes. Carrying the depth of decades, her work is an arch of the mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual. Every creation is shaped by her life, the people around her, and the questions she has asked along the way. Art has always been her language, a gift woven into her DNA. When words fall short, her creativity speaks, exploring meaning, connection and the joy of being alive. She believes every person has a unique spark — and many evolving facets within that spark — and her work inspires us to embrace curiosity, play, and wonder in our own lives. Her art blends classical principles of composition, color, line, and form with a search for heart, soul and truth. Each piece invites the viewer to feel, reflect and engage deeply, turning lived experience into something both visually striking and profoundly human. As a woman, wife, mother, grandmother and friend she continues to ask, Who am I? Where am I going? Who do I want to become? Her art is both her reflection and her journey and we are so honored to share it with the world. In our first release of Shaina’s work, we focus on pieces selected from three of her broader series. The first set boasts the beauty and holiness of the land of Israel. Created plein air — completely on site in the outdoors, and finished in one sitting — Shaina makes use of dry pastels and oils to produce movement, vibrancy and life in her depictions of the place (and the various places within that place) she calls home. These pieces look great as a set — paired or in three, four or five. The second set are striking, mesmerizing face-on portraits of traditional Jewish men. Drafted with charcoal and conte crayon, the contrast of black and white and dark and light make pairing these two pieces next to one another a great choice for a striking, thought-provoking effect. The third set is simply sensational. Certainly not for the faint of heart, these three watercolors entitled “APPLAUSE” are political and provocative. They boldly move us to confront the twisted alliances in the world of antisemitism. These are for those who love to make a statement. We love them absolutely.
